A Little About This Blog

The premise is pretty simple:  One sketch, every night, any medium, any subject.  I don’t know how long I will be able to keep this up, though I’m hoping for at least a year.  I draw random things on all assortments of surfaces every day:  post-its, memos, email print-outs, take-out/delivery menus, etc.  However, the trick is remembering to keep them, or at least take pictures of them.  I was inspired by several things:

1)  The movie Julie and Julia, which got me thinking about blogs that post on a daily basis, as opposed to my other blog, Woman Of Color, which is a bit more sporadic.

2)  The Wacom Bamboo pen and tablet set.  I owned a prehistoric version of this product, early in the last decade.  Let’s just say…the technology has evolved vastly.  So much so, that I plan on procuring one of these and getting into some more advanced digital drawing.  The prospect of this new adventure gives me reason to desire some sort of log of my progress in using it.

3)  I renewed my vows of artistry in the new year.  Part and parcel of this is brushing up on my discipline:  waking up early before the day job to get in some painting, venturing into the city to work on my photography and, of course, sketching on a much more regular basis to hone my drawing skills.

A Few Disclaimers before you head on back to the blog:

*I cannot guarantee that all sketches and drawings on this blog will be PG-13.  I will cover a vast array of subjects here, and many of them will be adult material, at times controversial even.  If this sort of thing offends you, please look elsewhere.  I would also suggest that you avoid radio, television, pretty much all public media, and any social interactions with anyone above the age of 10.

*Some of the sketches may be that of sculptures and public art and/or my renderings of other artistic works.  Please note that if I do this, I will always try to notate the original artist’s name and information when available.  In situations when the information is not at my disposal, I will mention the place where the original work was seen and any other relevant information.  I am inspired by a wide variety of works, but I am not a biter (at least not intentionally).

*I am eagerly open to any suggestions of what you think I should draw.  So, by all means, please stop by and throw out some ideas in the comments.  Sign up and subscribe.  Tell your friends and neighbors.  Feel free to plaster my page with a wide variety of compliments.  Such classics as “Your work is brilliant and should be in MOMA.” and “You are a young, Black da Vinci incarnate.” never fail to disappoint.

*I am also open to *constructive* criticism and critique of my work.  That being said, if you are going to criticize, please make sure it is interesting, well-thought out, and has firm explanations based on logic, knowledge, or general concern.  I’m not saying you can’t use expletives, but unless it is “essential to the storyline”, please avoid it.  This is an open forum, and I will attempt to keep it this way as much as possible.

So, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way…let’s start the show, shall we?
